WE JUST TURNED ONE!!!

It gives me immense pleasure to announce that DottyDoodlers has completed one year! Yes...we have just turned one!! There is so much that we have been able to achieve in this one year and there is so much more to achieve in the coming years. Well...if I begin talking about all our achievements in the past one year, I might as well take one more year just to tell you all about it :-) This post is not about art and craft, but it is actually about my Little Artists...my DottyDoodlers.  It is they who come to my class and create all the magic with their small hands. As a small gift to all my Little Artists on the occasion of our 1st birthday, I have compiled this video using their pictures from the past year. A special thanks to Anika Dave, one of my DottyDoodlers, who made the DottyDoodlers flags and also impromptu wrote, composed and sang a special DottyDoodlers anthem for our 1st birthday celebrations. So now we also have our own DottyDoodlers anthem along with our own Flag..Yeah!! You will be able to hear this song in the video.  Thank you all once again for all your encouragement and support. Please join me in wishing our little one year old baby "DottyDoodlers" a very very Happy Birthday!!!

ONLY CHARCOAL

Only charcoal….yes all the drawings and that too only by using charcoal. That's what it was in our charcoal drawing workshop! And when we mix kids and charcoal in one place, what do we get…yes we had charcoal everywhere...on paper, on our hands, on the light switch boards and even on our faces :-) Charcoal is an excellent medium to make beautiful sketches in black and white but it comes with its own dirt baggage. It can be a little tricky to handle for beginners but it also gives the freedom to move their hands freely.

I conducted this workshop with two students, Sneha (10 yrs) and Shaiana (9yrs) who experienced charcoal for the first time. But they surprised me with their efforts and enthusiasm. They put in a lot of efforts and worked and reworked and reworked again….on the same subject again and again. And the results were indeed jaw dropping. By the end of the workshop, I could see them exploring with tougher subjects with much more confidence. This showed a marked improvement over what they were capable of doing in the first class of the workshop. Giving below a glimpse of what we were able to achieve in this workshop:

CRAZY GEOMETRY ART

One revelation….kids enjoy anything crazy, weird and not so obvious things that go with the art projects too!! The main theme of this post revolves around the use of simple & basic shapes of geometry that all kids know, such as a circle, triangle, square, rectangle, semi-circle etc. to produce art forms. We played around stretching, squeezing & overlapping these shapes and came up with quite a lot of interesting art projects. Given below is an example of a project, which includes making a small product that can be used for their own rooms at their homes. So please go ahead and explore the work of my art wizards:

CRAZY DOOR HANGERS

Continuing with the theme of crazy art geometry…we converted our drawing project into a useful art project made out of old puzzle pieces! We replicated the crazy hat faces on a Door Hanger and also wrote our personal messages on the Door Hangers. Shhhhh.....let's find out who is awake and who is sleeping :-)

CRAZY-CAT-STRETCH

Now who doesn't like a nice cat stretch once in a while…. And more so when you have a cat made up of simple basic shapes! Yes…this interesting cat drawing turned out to be real fun when the kids learnt how easy it was to draw a stretching cat sitting next to the window and enjoying warm rays of sun! Well…don’t we all wish we were the cat enjoying the warm sun rays on a cold winter morning sipping warm milk right?? :-)
